This painting was inpsired by a plein air painting day at Ben Lomond’s historic rose garden in Manassas, Virginia. It was a beautiful summer day and the roses were so striking, climbing on a white trellis. I could see hints of blue relected in some of the petals from the clear summer sky.
“It was June, and the world smelled of roses. The sunshine was like powdered gold over the grassy hillside.”
—Maud Hart Lovelace
